the DeSoto house...

desotomain

I just booked a room for a weekend at the end of September in The DeSoto House in Galena.  It's located on Main Street and has a ton of history to it. It was first built in 1855 and was known as the "Largest Hotel in the West".  Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas stayed there and Ulysses Grant used it as his campaign headquarters.  Yep, but here is the clincher.  The third floor is said to be haunted and guests have reported feeling a cool chill around them or feeling someone sitting down on their bed.  Also, a woman in a black dress of the times has been seen waking down the stairs and going into a wall and people have heard conversations, arguments, and smelled cigar smoke.  I really want to stay here and see if we experience any friendly visits for ghosts of the past.  Read this...
