last night was for goodbye...

When I got home last night around 5, I carried in grocery bags filled with deli supplies to make sandwiches for Nick's trip back to Jonesboro (My tradition for the past 5 years!). Nick's car was packed and ready to go and he said, "Packing went well."  Good!
After making trip sandwiches and dinner sandwiches from our leftover meatloaf and meatball and watching Modern Family before bed, Nick walked upstairs to say he was off to say goodbye to his BFFs and then this conversation happened.

nick:  Well, is this good bye?
brian: Yep, Nick.
me:  Nick, we really enjoyed you and I am so proud of you. (Hugs) Your last semester!
brian:  (Hug) I love you, Nick.  Do it right and finish strong.
me:  (Hug) I has really been fun being with you on break.  You're a good person, Nick. Please drive safely.
nick:  I love you, too.  I can't believe this is my last semester.  It feels like just yesterday I was driving for the first time to school and now it's my last.
me: Remember to call dad when you leave and pick up your phone when he calls.
nick:  I will, mom.  Mom, wake me up when you leave.
me: O.K., I will and have fun tonight and be safe.  I'll wake you in the morning.

Tears are streaming from my eyes .... I am so happy that Nick is excited and proud and soon to experience the feeling of achieving a goal that will take him to the next step of his life.  So lucky to have had this wonderful person be a part of my life.  Children are a gift; ones that are meant to be treasured.
